Visit the Cordoba Courtyards all the year round
Visitar Patios de Córdoba todo el año
As everyone knows, the Cordoba Courtyards really come into their own in the first fortnight of May each year, with the Festival of the Courtyards (“Patios”) of Cordoba (declared World Heritage), in which those owners participating in the contest open up their courtyards to the public. However, it is possible to visit the courtyards in Córdoba all the year round, and visiting outside the Festival dates is arguably a better time, without the huge crowds and long queues. So, if you opt for getting to know the courtyards out of season, there are a number of options available:
- The Viana Palace: This superb palace, situated in the Plaza de Don Gome, was built around twelve stunning courtyards brimming with flowers and one formal garden. The courtyards feature a wide range of climbing plants and flowerpots, which fill every nook and cranny of this quirky museum with their rich scents. The last Marchioness of Viana, Sophia of Lancaster, did an excellent job of preserving all the charming historic features of this original 14th century palace.
- Free access to some courtyards: Download this pdf file to find the opening times of the different courtyards which are open free of charge all the year round.
- Guided visits and experiences: One of the best ways to understand and value the culture of the courtyards is to let yourself be guided by an expert. A number of different companies and organizations offer multiple experiences and guided visits to the courtyards all the year round through our Online Booking System. In addition, there are several options for visiting the courtyards on the following websites:
- The Courtyards (Patios) Festival Visitors’ Centre: this iconic courtyard-house keeps alive the festive tradition in Cordoba, and shows how the Cordoba Courtyards Festival is a festival for a town which is devoted to its courtyards and has expressed its identity through them over the centuries. The Courtyards Festival Visitors’ Centre was founded to mark the award given by the UNESCO in 2012 as Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity.
Enjoy the Cordoba Courtyards to the full at any time of the year!
