Jardines de la Alameda del Obispo
On the southwestern outskirts of the city, close to the banks of the Guadalquivir river, lie the Alameda del Obispo gardens, one of Cordoba’s best-kept secrets. It is the only existing labyrinth garden in Andalusia (and one of only five in Spain), and its origins date back to the 14th century. Around the year 1342, the property passed into the hands of the Bishop of Cordoba and it nowadays houses the headquarters of the agricultural research and training organisation IFAPA. The garden complex, which is made up of a formal transept-shaped garden, a trellised walkway and the labyrinth, forms a valuable part of our historical heritage and is arguably one of the most charming gardens in the region.
