The monument to Eduardo Lucena was subsidised in 1926 by the Cordoba Philharmonic Centre. The work of Montalban artist Enrique Moreno, it remained unfinished due to the artist’s death during the civil war. Some years later, the work was rescued from obscurity and set up in the Plaza de Ramón y Cajal in 1981.
Musician and composer Eduardo Lucena y Vallejo was born in Cordoba on January 22, 1849 and died on March 2, 1893. His lasting fame rests on his brilliant career as a composer and for creating in 1878 of the Philharmonic Centre that bears his name.
