Museo Diocesano (Palacio Episcopal)
|
On the second floor of the historic Episcopal Palace, in calle Torrijos, stands the Diocesan Museum, housing a comprehensive collection of works of art brought from churches all over the Diocese, as well as from the Cathedral and the Episcopal Palace. The collection includes not only sculptures and paintings, but also different types of furniture, dating from the 13th to the 18th century. It was built on top of the former Arabic castle from the period of the Caliphate, and the imposing building centres around a courtyard which features a handsome Baroque staircase with vaulting of polychrome plasterwork.
This museum is closed temporarily by works of restoration.
